What we collect
When you create an account we collect your email address, cell phone number, date of birth, and a password (stored only as a secure hash). Your profile includes a username, physical characteristics (height, weight, eye color, hair color, sex), one photo, and answers you choose to provide about your background and preferences — including education, profession, ethnicity, political orientation, religion, and family intentions. We also store the letters and messages you exchange with matches, your likes and matches, and any reports you submit.
How it's used and who sees it
Your profile (excluding your photo, email, and phone number) is shown to other signed-in members whose search criteria you fit. Your photo is hidden until you and a match exchange the required letters; your email and phone number are hidden until the later reveal stage — both are only ever shown to that one match. Your messages are visible only to you and your match. We do not sell your data, show ads, or share your information with advertisers.
Sensitive information
Fields like ethnicity, religion, and political orientation are optional in the sense that "Prefer not to say" is always available. You choose what to disclose; whatever you provide is displayed to potential matches as described above.
Where your data lives
Data is stored with our infrastructure providers: Supabase (database and photo storage) and Netlify (website hosting). Drafts you type are also auto-saved in your own browser's local storage and never leave your device until you save or send them. We use one cookie: a session cookie that keeps you signed in. No tracking or advertising cookies.
Deleting your data
During the beta, email kal@matchmakerapp.net from your account email and we will delete your account and associated data. Deleting your account removes your profile, photo, likes, matches, and messages.
Beta notice
Matchmaker is in beta. Features may change, and despite our care, beta software can have bugs. Don't put anything in a letter you couldn't bear to lose, and report anything odd to kal@matchmakerapp.net.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll note the new effective date here.
